Artist's Statement
Metanoia: A Change of Heart/Mind emerged during a season of profound transition for Nashville-area figurative painter Katelin Schutt. Created during and after study with master artist Steve Huston, the work carries change on multiple levels—technical, spiritual, and personal.
Over the two years following the birth of her second child, Schutt experienced upheaval that reordered her sense of identity and direction. Metanoia became both a testament and a mirror: a way to stay with the moment something shifts internally.
In these paintings, nude figures move through surreal, cave-like landscapes in states of ecstatic motion. The dancers aren’t posed for consumption; they are in becoming—embodying the instant when an inner turning occurs and life is irrevocably reoriented. Metanoia treats transformation as a lived process: entering the unknown, recognizing what is true, and emerging changed.

Artist's Statement:

This solo show explores personal growth and becoming the next version of myself. Each piece in the Alignment series connects to opportunities for growth, such as aligning chakras and finding peace and harmony. Using stencils and essential shapes, I focus on purposeful color to convey this journey. The work reflects my evolution as an artist and woman, inspired by my own mental health journey and conversations with my son about its importance. I hope viewers feel their own inner power, presence, and alignment, inspiring them to embrace growth and their highest good.
